''There exists a popular support in Syria for the continuation of Mideast Peace negotiations, as to achieve the Peace. This –the support- is very important for us, as Government and as State.  The solution, however, is to exist once there would be the partner, who is prepared to go in the same directions, from the Israeli Side,'' said His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad in a joint Press Conference, held with His Croatian Counterpart, His Excellency President Stjepan Mesić, Zagreb, October 28, 2009.

His Excellency President Al-Assad went on saying: '' Of course, we need a mediator, broker, or sponsor for the process of peace negotiations. In the light of our last year experience with Turkey, when it brokered the indirect negotiations for 8 months, the Turkish Mediator was very successful in running the process of mediations,'' pointing out to the importance of a European support for the Turkish role in this regard and  in this phase.

'' We agree with what President Obama of the United States has presented with regard to the Arab-Israeli Conflict, and with regard to the withdrawal from Iraq. These Causes are, however, very complex; there are big titles, subtitles, and many details. So far, we have just heard of the titles, never heard of a discussion with the parties concerned, including Syria, as far as these details; without of which we can not draw up an execution plan, as to achieve the goal of Peace. The time is not in the interest of Mideast Peace Process; therefore, urgency is necessary. The European role lies here; this is what I have discussed with President Halonen: as not to lose this time, it is of top importance that we have together to move with the European Union, and European Countries, as to use this lost time to arrive as shortest as possible ,with the US Administration,  to the implementation of the Peace Process,'' reiterated His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad in a joint Press Conference with the visiting President of Finland, Her Excellency President Tarja Halonen, October 22, 2009.

''The most important topic of our discussions is the Peace Process. I have explained- during the talks- the Syrian stance as far as the Process, which has about two decades of time and which is halted for now. I reaffirmed Syria's commitment to this Process, and the popular support for the Syrian Government to pursue the Process of Peace. Further, I have reaffirmed our commitment to the basics upon which the Process of Peace is based, in particular the UN Security Council Resolutions, the Principle of the Land for the Peace, as the Term of Reference established by the Conference of Madrid in /1991/,'' said His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad.

''We can never forget the stance of the Turkish Parliament rejecting to allow the aggression against Iraq from the Turkish territories and airspace; such a stance has reflected the clear stance of the Turkish People, manifested through their anti-war demonstrations. Further, we would never ever forget the Turkish Government stance on the crime of the aggression against Gaza, and the grand rally of Istanbul deploring the massacres perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians. In return, the Arab People have responded to these honourable stances with appreciations and gratitude, which concrete results are soon to emerge.'' said His Excellency President Al-Assad in a speech delivered at the Iftar Banquet, held in his hour by the Turkish Development and Justice ruling Party, Istanbul, September 16, 2009.

His Excellency President Al-Assad cited, further, Mr.  Erdoğan's honourable stance at Davos Summit in protest against and rejection of the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian People of Gaza, ''Today, we are in need for the many of such honourable, clear, sincere, and just stances,'' underlined President Al-Assad; citing, further, the confidence and trust characterizing his relationship with the President of Turkey, H. E. Abdullah Gul, and Premier Erdoğan saying: ''It is from this very trust that we have started to work together for the stability of the region; we have had not even a slight doubt that the essence for this stability and the prelude for this stability are but the realization of the Just and Comprehensive Peace in the Middle East. We have translated this joint action through the indirect negotiations between Syria and Israel in Istanbul, which lasted for eight months, preceded by joint coordination and preparation between me and Premier Erdoğan directly, for more than 13 months. Syria has once more proved during those negotiations, I say once more because in the 90's there were negotiations, her keenness on the realization of peace, through the serious participation in these negotiations. The Turkish mediator, who for the first time plays such a role, has also proved to be an objective and just broker, playing very skilfully his role.''

''Israel, in general, is not, at present, or in the short run, prepared for the realization of peace. As far as we are concerned, all the Governments of Israel are alike; since 1991, up to day, nothing serious has been realized in the process of peace. Consequently, the difference among them- Israeli Governments- is a difference in tactics and form; in substance, the essence is the same. The Israeli Polls assert that the Israelis, in general, are not yet willing for the peace; that they do not want to return the entire Land,'' declared His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad, in a joint press conference with Syria's grand guest, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

His Excellency President Al-Assad, however, reiterated Syria's commitment to the realization of the just and comprehensive peace, restoring the occupied Syrian Golan in its entirety, to the line of 1967; citing, further, the Syrian commitment to the role of mediation by Turkey.

''The Israeli siege on Gaza Strip is a massacre against all Palestinians; I have discussed with President Chavez how to move internationally as to nudge even a part of the world to lift the unjust siege imposed on the Palestinian People,'' said His Excellency President Al-Assad.

''We did not talk about the International Community; because the term of the International Community means today a limited number of big states, which want and seek to dominate the world, international politics and economy,'' added H. E. President Al-Assad, pointing out that both Syria and Venezuela call for reforming the International Organization; so that they would be moved from the international disorder status to an International Order Status, Considering the fact that the International Community, as it stands today, is but the hegemony over the International Organizations.

'' When Syria is accused of killing Iraqis, while Syria hosts about /1.2/ million of the Iraqis-which is ,of course, her duty- this accusation, in the least of words, is an immoral one.'' declared H. E. President Bashar Al-Assad, in a joint Press Conference with the visiting counterpart of Cyprus, His Excellency President Demetris Christofias, August 31, 2009.

H. E. President Al-Assad added, in reply to a question about mediation between Syria and Iraq, and the prospects of their bilateral relations, '' I can not talk about prospects; hence the prospects are linked to more than a side, we are one of the sides. We, however, can talk about the ambitions of Syria that the relations with all Arab Countries, with no exception, are to be good. If the relations are good, they have to be better; if they are bad, they have to be good. The causes of the problem are clear; when Syria is accused of supporting terrorism, while Syria has been combating terrorism for decades, when the counties of the region, and outside the region, supported the same terrorists; it is a political accusation. But it is with no political logic whatsoever,'' underlined His Excellency President Al-Assad.
