On December 31st, 2009, His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad was e-voted for as the personality of the year 2009, according to CNNarabic Internet Edition, with a 67 percent of all the  votes, in less than a month of a free click-and-vote-for opinion poll. The result is largely seen by many observers as another conclusive indication of H.E. President Al-Assad's wise and historic leadership, leading Syria on the right way of reforms, development, and prosperity, in commitment to the Just and Comprehensive Peace. His Excellency has been able to make of Syria the Mecca of Arab  regional and international focus and frequent visits; notwithstanding all the unjust sinister bids as to derail the Syrian march and construction. Such a policy has added the more of assets and popular support to  the Arab Syria Al-Assad, in the footsteps of the late President Hafez Al-Assad, the builder of the Modern Syria of Today, who was often voted for as the Personality and Distinguished Statesman for several consequent years before His untimely demise in 2000.

''The year of 2009 is the year of Syria and of His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad's brilliance. President Al-Assad is the most close to His People, Arabs and to the public opinion; enjoying the more of amity, confidence, and closeness to Arabs,'' said Prof. Mohsen Bilal, the Minister of Information, December 30, 2009. ''President Bashar Al-Assad has corner stoned  His policy on His absolute trust in His People, belief in His Causes, formulating the future visions, as to safeguard the Causes, on top of which comes the mother Palestinian Cause,  to safeguard sovereignty,  laying down the bases as to fortify Syria, to steadfast, and as to liberate the land,'' added Prof. Bilal. ''His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad is a practical man of His word, adopts and reactivates  what he says within a mechanism of implementation. His Excellency Al-Assad embodies the National, Arab and Human conscience in His eagerness as to mend the fences, bridge the gap, and to unite the Arab ranks, not to mention the Theory of His own, related to the order and organization of differences.'' concluded Prof. Mohsen Bilal, the Minister of Information, December 30, 2009, interviewed by the Syrian Satellite Channel.

Earlier, on May 19, 2009, His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad was voted for as the most popular Arab Leader, according to a major survey of public opinion in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), released by the Brookings Institution and Zogby International.

On November 25, 2008, His Excellency was awarded the Strategic Vision Award for the year 2008, in recognition of President Al-Assad’s role as a distinguished Statesman enjoying a strategic vision which has been demonstrated by the Syrian wise policy at all levels by the Turkish Asian Centre for Strategic Studies (TASAM).
