"The Arab Summit of Doha is the best of Summits as far as the resolutions taken, which reflected the Arab condition in general, and reflected our learning as Arabs by our mistakes," said His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad to the Qatari Al-Sharq Newspaper, April 1, 2009.

"We have to analyze the kind of the differences –among Arabs-; do we have border disputes? No we do not. Do we have disputes regarding oil wells, maritime borders, or certain economy? We do not. The difference is as far as other causes which are not basically ours," added His Excellency, asserting the need for the foundation of dialogue bases among Arabs, and the need for the good management of Arab differences considering the right of the very owners of a certain cause to have their saying as far their cause, and the need to support countries and not certain factions.

"The Arab Peace Initiative is suspended and dead, because and since its issuance, there was no partner. Because there is no partner for this imitative, it does not exist. It exists only in our minds and on the paper; in reality it does not exist," reiterating that the said initiative contains the Terms of Reference for the realization of Mideast peace.

"When a country talks about peace, while the Israeli enemy is carrying out killings in Palestine; the political role and activity would be weakened. The process of peace is like any other thing if to be circulated in the market as in many quantities currency, it is to be devaluated," declared His Excellency President Al-Assad. "We are the owners of the land; nobody is entitled to replace us. The Peace is my peace and that of Lebanon and Palestine," said President Al-Assad.

"Israel does not desire the peace; what is the alternative, or the parallel way for peace process? It is resistance. The Israel did not accept the carrots; there should come the sticks. Once any Israeli Government were to declare its preparedness to return the occupied territories in full, we could start negotiation," said President Al-Assad adding "There is the increasing of the idea of resistance; the operations of the resistance twenty or thirty years back are different from the operations being carried today. Israel is going in a direction against its interests. All in all, all people go towards the resistance, first biologically, and second from a practical aspect ; there is no other option," pointing out that "there would ,perhaps, be a future generation which would never accept to talk about peace", and that the time is but to the advantage of the Arabs.

"We do support the Resistance; but can nor create resistance-men nor make the Resistance move. It is the occupation which creates the Resistance, the conviction of the resistance-men themselves," added President Al-Assad, pointing out that Syria has an organized Army, developed following the war of 1973, "We are a state with a structure of Army and Economy, and where every thing is meant for the liberation. The day will definitely come when the Golan would be liberated, whether through peace or war," added H. E. President Al-Assad, not excluding the possibility that once the Syrians would lose hope, would move towards the resistance in a way or another.

"We have been against the occupation of Iraq; the positive new thing is the announcement of President Obama during his election campaign about his desire to withdraw from Iraq. This is an important point; and we have announced our willingness to help America to withdraw from Iraq; so as to achieve the objective, which the Iraqis have been seeking to achieve. This depends on the US vision," said President Al-Assad.

"The Palestinian reconciliation protects Palestine from the Israeli aggression, and helps to re-launch peace on the Palestinian track. We, in Syria, have talked since day one of the process of peace, about the comprehensive peace. The comprehensive peace can not be on the Syrian track alone; we need the Palestinian track, so that there could be coordination between the two tracks; we win, and so do they," outlined His Excellency President Al-Assad.
