President Bashar Al-Assad presided on the 20th of April 2008 the Central Command of the Baath Arab Socialist Party (BASP) meetings asserting the need for bolstering the BASP interaction with the Syrians in an atmosphere of self and constructive criticism, highlighting the need for tackling the Syrian Citizens’ living conditions and concerns.H. President Al-Assad asserted that the BASP is at the service of the Syrians’ needs and aspirations calling for an objective evaluation of what has been achieved in Syria at the economic and development fields as to improve and better the live conditions of the Syrians evading the negative consequences of world economic upheavals resulting for the irrational policies adopted by some international forces which have led to price- skyrocketing.

His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad appreciated during the meeting, January 20th 2008, the role and contributions of Mr. Suheil Arafa , the Syrian Arab Musician, to the Syrian Art and Song. President Assad decorated Arafa with the Syrian Order of Merit in recognition of his artistic contributions.

We work for making the message of Damascus that of clinging to the Nation roots , to the language of the great ancestors filled with the sublime Arab values which call for goodness and peace, and which work for goodness and peace with honor and dignity, said President Assad January 19th celebrating Damascus as the Capital of Arab Culture for the year 2008

H. E. President Bashar Al-Assad inaugurating, January 5th 2008, the rehabilitation works of Qwiq River in Aleppo. The River goes through the City of Aleppo and is to be more environment friendly one following its rehabilitation and new water pumped to it from the Euphrates.
