An assertion was laid during the meeting on the need for more European contribution to solving the region problems, hence the non-solving of these problems would impact negatively not only the region countries, Europe, but the entire world.

The talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Bulgaria and ways of boosting them up. His Excellency President Al-Assad was handed an invitation from his Bulgarian counterpart as to visit Bulgaria, whereby H. E. accepted the invitation with a promise to visit Bulgaria next year.

 H. E. President Al-Assad noted that Mideast Peace Process needs the seriousness of Israel, an honest sponsor, European role, and to international efforts rallying, reiterating that the realization of the just and comprehensive peace on the basis of International Legitimacy resolutions is the sole way for the realization of security and stability in the region, to be reflected positively on the entire world. President Al-Assad called for the lifting of the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza Strip.

His Excellency President Al-Assad and Mr. Miliband talks touched upon the indirect peace talks between Syria and Israel, issues of bilateral interest, regional and international topics including the occupied Palestinian Territories, Iraq and Lebanon. Assertion was laid on the importance of continued consultation and cooperation between Syria and Britain regarding issues of common interest on the basis of joint interests.

H. E. President Al-Assad underlined that the Arab Media Language should be up to the level required for responding to the political, intellectual and moral challenges of the Arab Societies, and as the best means of bolstering inter-Arab relations. President Al-Assad pointed out the Ministers Summit in Damascus is a very important step forward as far as Arab Joint Action.

His Excellency President Al-Assad renewed Syria’s support for the Sudanese Government efforts as far as Darfur, and willingness to exert every possible effort as find a solution for the issue of Darfur. President Al-Assad reiterated Syria’s keenness on the unity and stability of the Sudan against bids to dismember it. President Al-Assad was conveyed a message during the meeting from His Sudanese Counterpart related to bilateral relations and Darfur.

His Excellency President Al-Assad underlined the importance for a mechanism of reconciliation between the Palestinian factions by the Arab league Foreign Ministers coming Summit of the League. President Al-Assad voiced deep concern over the deterioration of human situation in Gaza Strip because of the Israeli siege and practices asserting the need that the Arab League should shoulder its responsibilities to this effect.

Syria has spared no efforts, and would ever do so, for the sake of the restoration of stability to Iraq, and the achievement of National reconciliation among the Iraqis, underlined H. E. President Al-Assad.

H. E. President Al-Assad was handed during the meeting a message from Iraq’s Premier, Al-Maliki, who pledged in his message as to safeguard the national and regional security, and as not to make of Iraq the base for launching attacks against neighboring countries, under no circumstances.

President Al-Assad reiterated during the meeting Syria’s keenness as to bolster relations with the brotherly Iraq at all levels in the interest of both countries’ people, as well as Syria’s keenness to stand up against the conspiracies hatched against the region security and stability.

“The top priority of our political strategy is to find a just and comprehensive solution for the conflict- the Arab Israeli- based on international legitimacy resolution,"

 “We are keen on the achievement of the just and comprehensive peace, based on our fixed and inalienable, under no circumstances, rights, on top of which is the undiminished withdrawal to the line of June 4, 1967”added His Excellency pointing out “The Israeli non-responding to peace requirements on the Syrian track, indicates that peace for Israel is but a tactical action rather than a strategic option.”

“Israel, not even for a single day, has cancelled the idea of aggression from its policies, caused by the Israelis’ latent fear of peace, especially at this time, when we witness the increasing flagrant trends of religious and racial extremism by the Israelis; concepts of expelling Arabs, and other racial expressions have, rather,  become more present in their political discourse,” said H. E. President Al-Assad.

“We still see the motto of peace used as part of the domestic political game in Israel, as a fundamental element of the foreign political maneuvers whirlpool, which hides of facts more than shows,” noted His Excellency asserting “Peace has never been the basic preoccupation for the Israelis; their preoccupation, however, is security with its bottle-necked meaning, and which is, as far as their vision, not to be realized but at the expense of Arabs’ security and rights.”

His Excellency President Al-Assad was handed during the meeting, November 5, 2008, a message of condemnation against the US flagrant aggression against Syria as well as of support to Syria. The delegation members, representing Mr. Moqtada Al-Sader, the well-known Islamic Figure, reiterated their total rejection of the US so called Security Agreement with Iraq labeling it as a bid to make Iraq hostage to the US and as a base against the brothers of Iraq.

His Excellency President Al-Assad was handed during the meeting, November 5, 2008, an invitation from the Emir of Kuwait as to attend the forthcoming Arab Economic, Development and Social Summit. President Al-Assad voiced satisfaction over the depth of the Syrian-Kuwaiti relations hoping that the forthcoming Summit is to realize its objectives in bolstering of the Economic Integration of the Arab World.

His Excellency President Al-Assad reiterated during the meeting, November 3, 2008, that the threats and provocations would never terrorize the Arab and Islamic People; but would instead solidify their commitment to their just causes. H. E. voiced satisfaction  over the huge development witnessed by the relations between both friendly countries. Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, who handed president Al-Assad a message from his Iranian Counterpart, voiced Iran’s condemnation of the US criminal aggression against the innocent civilians in Abu Kamal, reiterating Iran’s , people and government, support for Syria in her confrontation of the schemes hatched against her as well as against the region. The message of the Iranian President revolves about the standing relations of friendship between Syria and Iran, recent regional and international developments, especially the US aggression against the Syrian Territories, conditions in Iraq, Lebanon, as well as in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

H. E. President Al-Assad welcomed during the meeting, November 2, 2008, the return of the European active role, reiterating that Europe is more comprehensive of the Arab Causes given the factors of Geography and History, and has the possibility to play a balanced role in the interest of stability consolidation in the region. H. E. Al-Assad talks with MEP Veronique De Keyser, touched upon recent developments in the region including Mideast Peace Process. MEP De Keyser voiced the European Parliament (EP) support for the indirect peace negotiations between Syria and Israel with the mediation of Turkey as to reach the just and comprehensive peace in the region. Further, MEP De Keyser voiced her support for the signing of the long-awaited for Association Agreement between Syria and the EU in the interest of both sides in light of the Syrian pivotal role, and the EU desire as to redouble its role in region contributing to the region security and stability. Minister Buothaina Shaa’ban the Advisor of President Al-Assad for Political and Media Affairs attended the meeting.
