PRESIDENTS AL-ASSAD/ CHANCELLOR FAYMANN CONFERENCE (December 23, 2009)
''I have explained to Chancellor Faymann the Syrian stance on the Process of Peace; that is the necessity of the withdrawal from the occupied Arab Territories in full to the borders of 1967; and the means as to achieve this very peace is the negotiations based on the UN Security Council Resolutions, which form the base for peace sponsor or mediators as to accomplish the peace,'' said His Excellency President Al-Assad in a joint press conference with Mr. Werner Faymann, the Austrian Federal Chancellor, December 23, 2009.
''The peace is to affect us, positively and negatively in all aspects of life. The stability and peace in the Middle East is but the stability and peace in the entire world. It is well known that the stances of Austria are in support of the peace; Syria is a basic part in the process of peace; and both of us are in accord regarding the necessity to move the process of peace forward and moving as to support it,'' added H.E. President Al-Assad, asserting that Austria, EU member, could play an 'important role' as far as Mideast peace realization: ''I have discussed talked with His Excellency the Chancellor about an inter-European dialogue as to move towards the peace; so that there would be a clear-cut, united, objective, and realistic European role as far as the Process of the Peace.''
''Furthermore, we have discussed the Palestinian Issue; hence the peace is not only the Syrian track; we have talked about the Palestinian reconciliation, the necessity as to lift the siege imposed on Gaza as a basic way for supporting the Just and Comprehensive Peace, which passes through the Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese tracks,'' declared His Excellency President Al-Assad, appreciating the Austrian UNDOF participation, not to mention The 'positive implication' of a future boosting of the Syrian-Austrian relations, citing the visits of Austrian Companies to Syria as to probe investment opportunities.
In reply to a question regarding Syria's relations with the world, H.E. President Al-Assad said: ''Syria is an important country; no one was able to deter Syria from playing such a role.''
