DAMASCUS JANUARY 21, 2009- His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad voiced the hope of Syria for a fruitful dialogue with the United States of America, based on common interests and reciprocal respect, leading to just and comprehensive peace on the region on the basis of related United Nations resolutions.

His Excellency sent today a congratulation cable to His US Counterpart, H. E. Barack Obama, who took the constitutional oath yesterday as the 44th President of the USA. Mr. Obama’s inaugural speech constitutes what might be, according to different analyses, a positive turning point in the US Administration policies.

H. E. President Obama asserted in his speech the desire for the realization of peace in the world resorting to aspiration rather than to fear, as the basis for his Administration policy.
