His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad received Thursday evening, June 26th, 2008, a phone call from Mr. Ban Ki-moon , the United Nations Secretary General, who thanked H. E. the President for the efforts exerted by Syria as to reach the Doha Accord among the Lebanese, enabling the Lebanese to elect in accord President Michel Suleiman as their President.
Mr. Ki-moon welcomed the indirect peace negotiations between Syria and Israel with the Turkish mediation asserting his support for these negotiations appreciating the Syrian positive role as far as the issue of
peace is concerned.President Al-Assad had held talks with Ki-moon in Damascus on April 24th, 2007. The talks dealt with Syria-UN relations, Mideast Peace Process, conditions in Iraq, Palestine, and in Lebanon. H. E. President Al-Assad underlined the importance of building reciprocal respect and confidence. President Al-Assad, further, reiterated the Syrian support for whatever Lebanese reached-to-accords in consensus.
