President Assad Received Prodi

His Excellency President Bashar Hafez Al-Assad received here Saturday morning Mr. Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission and the accompanying delegation. Talks covered issues related to relations between Syria and the European Union, recent developments in the region and their impact on peace
process, and the obstacles laid by Israel before the realization of just and comprehensive peace. President Assad voiced appreciation for the role played by EU in the field of just and comprehensive peace realization hoping this role to be continued actively as to reach just and comprehensive peace. "The realization of just and comprehensive peace should stem from the implementation of related United Nations resolutions,'' President Assad underlined.
On July 14th , 2001, President Bashar Assad received before noon today a telephone
call from Chairman of the European Commission Romano Prodi.
During the call, Mr.Podi conveyed to President Assad the good repercussions of Pope John Paul 11's to Syria and the atmosphere of religious forgiveness and opening His Holiness found in it.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, and bilateral relations between Syria and the EU, particularly in the commercial and the economic spheres.
